Yves Klein was the most influential, prominent, and controversial french artist to emerge in the 1950s. He is remembered above all for his use of a single color, the rich shade of ultramarine that he made his own: International Klein Blue. Painter, sculptor and performance artist, his work greatly influenced the development of minimalism. After decades of using the color International Klein Blue in the fashion sector, for the first time the Yves Klein Archives, on behalf of the heir to the Yves Klein estate, has authorised a brand to use the exact color Yves Klein patented. Therefore, International Klein Blue is appearing in an exclusive product.

interview-azumi-david

Interview Azumi & David

We talked to the two founders Azumi and David from A'N'D' about life, music and their new AW13 collection. How would you describe A'N'D' in one sentence? A'N'D produce things to wear with a subtle, surreal, elegant humor. What inspired you while designing your AW13 collection? The financial recession, the desire for luxury goods and the contrast of 1990's Nirvana Grunge with 1920's Great Gatsby self indulgence. Top 5 songs at the moment? Settle by Disclosure (the whole album - we play it every day in the studio and car!!!) Best advise you ever got? Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

interview-le-petit-voyeur

Interview Le Petit Voyeur

We interviewed the founder and creative force behind the magazine Le Petit Voyeur Kristian Rosén. Why did you start Le Petit Voyeur? I’ve always been passionate about art, design and photography. After spending the last 12 years building my design business and working with some great clients, I reached a point where I wanted to combine my daily work with my passions. I have been a magazine-o-holic since my early teens when I produced and bought graffiti magazines. My creative interests are diverse. Le Petit Voyeur reflects that by showing work from across genres - it’s not just a magazine about photography, art or naked women. I think a photographer can be just as inspired by a cool street art piece as an image. How would you describe Le Petit Voyeur in one sentence? My creative playground. Best advice you ever got? To be loyal and always do what you believe in, even though that means that you are going to work your ass off and make sacrifices. This mindset has helped me achieve a lot and made me who I am today. Top 5 songs at the moment? Besides my daily dose of hip hop and endless Soundcloud DJ mixes, I tend to listen to tracks that either give me a boost of energy while working, take me back to a good party, or - at the moment - give me a warm summer feeling in this FREEZING cold. Here are a few: Pional - The Shy. Jamiroquai - Too young to die (Felkon remix). James Welsh - Craven. Darkside - Paper Trails (BBC mix), The XX - Basic Space (Jamie XX Space Bass mix) Have a closer look at the magazine here

interview-peerish

Interview Peerish

We interviewed Peerish about his new album Mezzosphere and talked about his inspiration, childhood memories and truths. How would you describe Mezzosphere in one sentence? Mezzosphere is a surreal painting in sound that mixes classical, rhythmical and electronical components. Radical music yet inviting … or simply: Mezzosphere is art pop for the open-minded! What inspired you during and before composing the tracks for Mezzosphere? Just to mention a few: Music and soundscapes by Mike Patton - without him my single Euphoria wouldn't sound like it does! The male collections of the greek clothing designer Ioanna Kourbela - the show room in Athens is hiding but pays off. Films by Luis Buñuel and his fabulous auto biography “My last sigh”. Music by Imogen Heap - her way of composing and designing sound is so iridescent and limitless. The fantasy and storytelling of the French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet - he would be my first choice for a director of a music video for one of my songs. Photographs by Man Ray and his way of mixing materials. The early works of Marilyn Manson before he went soft and off track - the music, videoes, visual style of mainly Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s way of painting the light making its way through the leaves on the trees. Books about neurology and let me reveal the ending of them all: our brain is tantalizing and limitless! Lady Gaga’s mixture of art, pop and visuals is truly stimulating - I’d like to write a song with her. In Icelandic or french! The optics, methods and works of Salvador Dalí that continuously pushes my creativity ... and of course the blank pages in my note books. Why did you collaborate with Kvadrat on the packing for the vinyl's? The impossible attracts me and Kvadrat seemed like the ultimate partner for wrapping the physical album up. To me music is tactile and the manifestation of layers of sonic spheres woven together. The cover has to reflect that. Plastic and paper wouldn’t be able to do that, but textile can. Kvadrat and I had already talked about a collaboration in 2008 when I released my hybrid CD-book-thing “Kollektion” and this time the impossibility was too attractive. When Designbolaget came across for the actual design everything clicked and finally design, music and art blended. What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town? I remember sitting in my childhood home, when I was around three or four years old, with my father’s headphones on, and listening to music from his reel tape recorder and lp's. The headphones were almost the size of my head. I had favorite songs but didn’t know how to find them at the tape reels, so I yelled for his help - loud because I couldn’t hear myself. Later on I had a walkman and increased my control over when and where I could listen to my favorite music. When Mezzosphere arrived as vinyl my father and I talked about listening to it together someday. I still have his headphones from back then. What was the best advice you ever got? It is not an advice but some kind of truth: Everything you want is found outside your comfort zone. So true … so terrifying … and so inspiring! Buy Mezzosphere here

interview-sergei-sviatchenko

Interview Sergei Sviatchenko

In the world of contemporary art, Sviatchenko is a provocateur. He draws on and harnesses all of the cultural tides he has experienced in 40 years of image-making. Sviatchenko’s oeuvre spans the known and the unimaginable. It cuts through the boundaries of traditional and contemporary visuals to merge pop culture with politics, personal memory with collective histories, and architecture and science with the logic of dreams. We asked Sviatchenko a view questions during the book launch at Storm;

What’s your favourite color? Yellow

Where do you draw your inspiration from? Life, architecture, surrealism and the art movement around the Russian Revolution.

How is it to see the book in front of you? It’s a great feeling. All those art pieces are my life, picked up from different stages and combined to this wonderful harmonious book.

If you had to describe the book in one sentence what would you say? Feeling

interview-tourne-de-transmission

Meet Tourne de Transmission founder and creative force Graeme Gaughan. Why did you start Tourne de Transmission? The idea of TDT started at the end of 2011 with a few t-shirts. But it didn't really become a collection as such until AW13. I had been designing t-shirts for bands etc during the late 2000's and i wanted to find a new way of expressing certain creative ideas. But more from a art or photography influenced perspective. One thing lead to another and the label quickly snowballed into a seasonal capsule collection based around photography and contrasting messages each season. How would you describe TDT in one sentence? An overgrown art project. What inspired you while designing your SS14 collection? The main thing was reminiscing on my first teenage holidays with friends, the music we were listening to and the places we visited. Some of these places were pretty rowdy... It was as if the animals had been let out the cages, which made me reflect on the Blur track Boys & Girls. Which we were listening to a lot at the time. The streets really did feel like a jungle. I am sure its quite a standard teenage holiday experience now, but it was back when flights were just becoming cheep enough for us to afford to brake away from the parents for the first time and spread our wings. It was or at least it felt pretty crazy... people jumping from balcony to balcony on the 10th floor... fights in lifts, foam parties etc... it was pretty horrible on reflection but a good source of inspiration. Best advise you ever got? Follow your gut, make the choices that feel are right straight away and dont fuck about ...and its better to regret something than being pissed of for not trying something. Top 4 songs at the moment? 1. Alghalem - Tarakaft: Our AW14 collection is quite heavily influenced by their music, look and style. 2. Joan of Arc - Arcade Fire: Love the new album... seems to be on repeat in the studio. 2. NIB - Black Sabbath: Awesome track, Awesome band. Every now and then i have a Sabbath moment. And their from Birmingham near where i grew up. 3. Last Stand - Kwabs: Dont know to much about this guy but his voice and the track are amazing. 4. Open Eye Signal - Jon Hopkins: This track has one of the best videos i have seen in a long time. It kinda draws you in on a journey with a skater who pushes his way across america in one go... Then randomly enough i ended up sitting next to the director Aoife McArdle at a dinner. So it was great to hear how it was shot. She is super talented ...

interview-oerjan-andersson

Interview ÷rjan Andersson

Last wednesday famous founder of Cheap Monday and Weekday, Örjan Andersson visited Storm and talked with us about his inspiration and the concept behind his new label Ö till A.

Where you draw your inspiration from ? "My biggest inspiration is the rich history of jeans itself. I’m fascinated by the tailoring skills that evolved with jeans over the past 150 years, including all old details that still dominating the look of the garment. As well as the important role of jeans in subcultures. A strong influence for my brand and jeans design in genral is the DIY attitude from the punk culture.

What makes your jeans special? "What distinguish me from most other designers is my approach to fashion. I started working in a jeans store when I was 19-years-old and for more than ten years on the floor I learned what problems customers are fighting while buying jeans. The experience of standing in a jeans store during the 90’s helping people find the right size and fit is still important for my creation of jeans. I’m very inspired to make jeans with high quality and design combined with nice cuts and fitting allways with denim in focus. Ö till A are not only my initials but also the end and the beginning of the Swedish alphabet It means that you can do the same thing in several ways, backwards or differently if it feels good and fit your personality. Jeans can interpreted in many ways in the fashion alphabet, as a fashion item or a necessity. It’s up to the carrier, if he or her want’s to see this clothing item from the end middle or the beginning.

How would you describe your jean design? "It’s a fashion denim look with a handsome and clean rock-look combined with traditional jeans attributes."

What can we expect in the future? "For now the main focus will be on jeans accompanied with new tees, jackets, shirts and knitwear ...but you never really know what’s going to happen in the future, right?"

Interview Geza Schˆn

Interview Geza Schˆn

For him, less is more. Where others may mix hundreds of essences, Geza Schön restricts himself to a small selection of top-quality raw materials. The decision is founded on experience, for just a few components frequently produce the most stirring creations. Away from the mainstream, Geza Schön has established an exclusive niche for himself in the perfumer’s art. We talked to Geza Schön about his youth and his new perfume gs03. What olfactive memory is the most powerful for you? For your new scent gs03 you reworked the classic 'eau de cologne' - where did the idea come from and was it difficult to work on a scent so well known? As a perfumer you always look back as well, into older ideas, classics and whatever there has been to then modernize those ideas or bring them up to speed of nowadays. interview-mads-trolle

Interview Mads Trolle

We interviewed jewelry designer and friend Mads Trolle about his debut collection "Skyline“; How would you describe your jewelry label in one sentence? Ladylike with an edge. Why did you decide to start your own jewelry label? “I have previously worked as part of the design team with Danish brands like Ole Lynggaard, Georg Jensen and Pandora where I designed several collections including the ‘Lovepods’ collection. Establishing a jewellery brand in my own name and designing the first collection is an old dream. It was my original dream when I started to train as a goldsmith at Georg Jensen. This was what I wanted to do with my life. Since then, my career took many turns and I became so involved with the big Danish jewellery brands, that I had almost forgotten what I really needed to do. Realizing that, it felt like I had no choice. I had to do my own thing, or regret it later. I am so happy to finally launched the brand and the collection, it feels like I am fulfilling what I set out to do." What inspired you while designing the "Skyline collection“? The collection is inspired by New York architecture and by architect Oscar Niemeyer. I wanted to design a collection for the modern, confident woman, so the muses for this collection was the young Patti Smith, Charlotte Gainsburgh and the Danish model Freja Behar. To me each of them are beautiful confident women and talented rebels. “Skyline” seemed to be a fitting title for the collection because of the strong architectual references. Top 5 songs at the moment? “Heaven” by Talking Heads. “Tessallate” by Alt-J. “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” by Sakamoto Ryuichi. “Afterlife” Arcade Fire. “Chandelier” by Sia. Best advise you ever got? “Be more you” This is not meant in an arrogant way. To me this is a simple advice for each and everyone of us that really makes sense.
