Min‰ Perhonen x Diptyque
stormfashion.mom
The Japanese brand Minä Perhonen is joining forces with Diptyque. Launched in 1995, with products based on original creations in fabric by designer Akira Minagawa, the Minä Perhonen brand is no longer strictly limited to the field of fashion. Today, its creativity has expanded, moving beyond borders throughout the entire world and now offers interior decoration items, tableware, stationary, etc. Like diptyque, the brand creates designs for Liberty and collaborates with numerous unique foreign brands, such as Kvadrat in Denmark, Iittala in Finland and Richard Ginori in Italy. This collaboration has given rise to three new fragrances created by diptyque, which were inspired by poems written by Akira Minagawa, designer for Minä Perhonen. He also devised the packaging that reflects the world of these fragrances.

Things come apart
stormfashion.mom
Todd McLellan’s unique photographic vision of the material world: fifty design classics—arranged first by size and then by intricacy—are beautifully displayed, piece by piece, exploding in midair and dissected in real-time, frame-by-frame video stills. This book makes visible the inner workings of some of the world’s most iconic designs. From SLR camera to mantel clock to espresso machine, from iPad to bicycle to grand piano, every single component of each object is revealed. These disassembled objects show that even the most intricate of modern technologies can be broken down and understood, while beautifully illustrating the quality and elegance of older designs. Stunning photography is interspersed with essays by notable figures from the worlds of restoration, DIY, and design innovation who discuss historical examples of teardowns, disassembly, and reverse-engineering. Each photograph is itself a work of art and offers a reinterpretation of our familiar world. They connect people with the child-like joy of taking something apart to see how it works and will appeal to anyone with a curiosity about the material world.

Life's a beach Martin Parr
stormfashion.mom
Following on the heels of Martin Parr's limited-edition, album-style presentation of Life's a Beach, released last season, Aperture is delighted to introduce a new beach-bag-sized edition. Parr has been photographing beaches for many decades, documenting all aspects of them, including close-ups of sunbathers, rambunctious swimmers caught mid-plunge, and the eternal sandy picnic underway. His international career, in fact, could well be traced to the launch of The Last Resort, a 1986 book depicting the seaside resort of New Brighton, near Liverpool. What may be less known is that this obsession has led Parr to photograph beaches around the world. This compilation, his first on the topic, presents photos of beachgoers on far-flung shores, including Argentina, Brazil, China, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Japan, the United States, Mexico, Thailand, and of course, the U.K. The compilation brings to the forefront Parr's engagement with a cherished subject matter-that rare public space in which general absurdities and local quirks seamlessly fuse together. This book shows Parr at his best, startling us with moments of captured absurdity and immersing us in rituals and traditions associated with beach life the world over. Buy the book here.

MYKITA for Storm
stormfashion.mom
The first MYKITA for Storm sunglasses are designed and produced with MYKITA's award winning MYLON technique. This technique boasts individual adaptability, low weight and outstanding durability. The key is a patented polyamide-based material that can be individually adjusted to the wearer. The evolution of the MYLON frames began with a new production process that promised to revolutionize the history of design when launched in the late 1990s; Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) enables the creation of three-dimensional objects as desired. Today SLS is primarily used to make prototypes, with only few sintered products having become everyday commercial items. In 2007 MYKITA began experimenting with the polyamide material, aiming to pioneer it in the production of spectacles. After years of research they developed a complex process that creates a sophisticated finish in several steps and gives the frames a unique visual and tactile appeal.Celebrating the new collection and long friendship, Storm is happy to announce that MYKITA will present a unique in-store installation, featuring more than 40 of their newest designs at Storm. The installation will be launched alongside the MYKITA for STORM collection on May 2nd at Storm, Store Regnegade 1, 1110 Copenhagen

Scene by Jeannette Montgomery
stormfashion.mom
Everyone now knows how influential the downtown art scene was in New York in the 1980s and Jeannette Montgomery Barron was fortunate to be right in the thick of it all, close friends with many who became legends. Her portraits of Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, Schnabel, Clemente, and many others uniquely captured their personalities, and most importantly, the era. Montgomery Barron wasn't merely a journalist or outsider documenting this scene. The fact that she was good friends with so many of these creative people meant there was instant trust between subject and photographer, resulting in rich, revealing portraiture. Jeannette Montgomery Barron was born in 1956 in Atlanta Georgia and studied at the International Center of Photography in New York. She became known for her portraits of the New York art world in the 1980s, which were later published in Jeannette Montgomery Barron (Edition Bischofberger, Zurich, 1989).
