Disco takes the viewer on an access-all-areas tour of late-70s New York nightlife. “Who were these people of the night... ? It was the Posers. The Watchers. The Posers watching other Posers watching the Watchers, watching the Dancers, watching themselves.” Bernstein’s eye was drawn to the characters that lived for the night, rather than the celebrities, the unknown men and women who were transformed by the nightclub haze, and this is one reason his photographs from this time feel so authentic and immersive. All the photographs featured were shot by Bernstein from 1978-80.

We interviewed Danish artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen about her new book Deco Mannequin, her inspiration and her favorite tunes. How would you describe your art in one sentence? Melancholy, mysterious, layered Why did you call your book Deco Mannequin? By reflecting forms of cultural expression such as theatre, dance, fashion in my works, I point to the performative in our being and how we present ourselves to others. I have titled the book Deco Mannequin, because lately I have been very much inspired by Art Deco, Cubism and the 1920s. I work with constructed identities and I use the mannequin, the mask and the puppet in my work. I am in a way a sort of puppeteer. The essential thing is that my portraits are not necessarily portraits of particular people, but rather repetitions of portraits from the history of art. From paraphrased portraits to more ordinary portraits of people one might know. Most recently several portraits have emerged of authors, designers and others, who have a personal significance to me as well along with portraits of my family. What are your sources of inspiration? Lots of art, Chris Ofili, Peter Doig, Klee, Picasso, Kaye Donachie, David Noonan, cubism, theatre, fashion, traveling, books, being at our country house in Sweden…being with my lovely family! Known for their bold and eye-catching designs usually influenced by the world of hip hop, this collection offers a modern interpretation of traditional southwestern motifs with blue lapis and onyx amid hypnotic explosions of radiant colors. The stars align along a magical mystery trip of unchartered dreamy aesthetics. One of their statement pieces was recently seen on Rihanna during the Coachella festival.

Dressed for Dinner a movie by Adam Kimmel with David Blains. David Blaine had no protective devices to keep him safe from the sharks, mainly the Great Whites, some as large as 20 feet in length. Tautz name is made in their own factory in Blackburn Lancashire. The remainder they source predominantly from a small number of mills and manufacturers in the UK.
